In a recent development, PTI’s Information Secretary Raoof Hasan has affirmed that party chairman Imran Khan has conveyed a clear message to President Arif Alvi, urging him not to entertain any requests for pardons regarding sentences imposed on him.
Despite the President’s constitutional authority to pardon court sentences, Imran Khan adamantly refuses to accept any such reprieves. Hasan pointed to Article 45 of the Constitution which vests the President with the power to pardon or modify court punishments.
Imran Khan rejects presidential pardon
In a conversation with local media, Raoof Hasan underscored that Khan has explicitly instructed President Alvi to disregard any appeals for clemency from any quarter regarding his convictions. While acknowledging the President’s constitutional prerogative to pardon sentences, Hasan reiterated that the PTI founder remains resolute in rejecting any potential pardons.
The legal saga surrounding Imran Khan involves multiple convictions, including the Toshakhana case, wherein the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended his sentence last year. However, subsequent convictions by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in three separate cases, including the cipher case and an un-Islamic nikah case have resulted in significant prison terms for Khan.

Despite the severity of these convictions, there remains a possibility for the incarcerated PTI leader to be absolved from serving his sentences. Article 45 of the Constitution explicitly empowers the President to pardon any convict, offering a pathway for leniency in Khan’s legal battles.
Nonetheless, Khan’s steadfast refusal to entertain the notion of pardons underscores his commitment to facing the consequences of his legal entanglements head-on.
