Imran Khan Seeks Oxford Chancellor Role from Prison

Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) is applying for the chancellor position at Oxford University while serving a ten-year prison sentence. The chancellor seat became available after Lord Patten resigned, ending his 21-year tenure.

The chancellor at Oxford serves as a ceremonial head, overseeing major university events. This year, the election will be held online for the first time, enabling Oxford’s 350,000 alumni to vote.

Despite being in prison for charges of inciting protests and violence against the military, which he denies, Khan is determined to pursue this prestigious role. In a recent interview from his cell, Khan said, “I am confined in a small cell, but my spirit remains unbroken. People voted for me because they desire change.”

Khan, who studied Economics and Politics at Keble College, Oxford, also captained the university’s cricket team. He previously served as the chancellor of Bradford University from 2005 to 2014.
