India and Canada Expel Top Diplomats Amid Sikh Separatist Murder Dispute

Tensions have escalated between India and Canada as both nations have expelled senior diplomats, deepening the diplomatic row over the killing of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil last year. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claimed that his government acted after credible allegations surfaced, linking Indian agents to the assassination.

Trudeau condemned India’s involvement, stating that evidence uncovered by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) could not be ignored. “India has made a fundamental error in supporting criminal acts on Canadian soil,” Trudeau said during a televised address.

India swiftly rejected the accusations, labeling them as “preposterous” and politically motivated. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced the expulsion of six Canadian diplomats and defended its top envoy, calling the allegations “ludicrous.”

Canadian authorities, however, assert that the RCMP has uncovered credible threats targeting pro-Khalistan supporters. Both countries have called for thorough investigations into the matter as diplomatic ties continue to deteriorate.
