The debate over the 2025 Champions Trophy has intensified following India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan for the event. India has proposed a hybrid model, suggesting their matches be played in Dubai, but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) remains adamant about hosting the entire tournament on home soil.
Reports suggest that the PCB may withdraw from the tournament altogether if India insists on not participating in Pakistan. This could result in the tournament being relocated from Pakistan, with India emerging as the leading candidate to host the event.
South Africa, once considered an alternative venue, is no longer in contention due to scheduling conflicts with the SA20 league. This leaves India as the strongest contender, backed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) readiness to host.
The ICC requested clarity on India’s withdrawal, and the BCCI provided security concerns as the basis for their decision. If Pakistan loses its hosting rights, it could face losses exceeding $65 million.
