Indian Jeweler Scams US Tourist, Sells Fake Jewellery Worth $4 For $700,000

A US tourist visiting Jaipur, India, fell victim to a sophisticated jewelry scam, incurring a staggering loss. The woman identified only as Cherish Nortje, reportedly paid $700,000 for what she believed to be valuable gemstones.

However, upon returning home and having the pieces appraised, she discovered they were worthless imitations, valued at a mere $4.

Authorities in Jaipur are now investigating the incident. The jeweler involved allegedly presented the fake jewelry as authentic and extremely valuable, convincing Ms. Nortje to make the hefty investment.
