Iranian President Dr. Syed Ebrahim Raisi is currently in Pakistan for a landmark three-day trip, which began on Monday. This visit marks a significant moment, as it is the first visit of any head of state to Pakistan following the general elections earlier this year.
Trade, ties and energy on Raisi’s agenda
President Ebrahim Raisi is accompanied by his esteemed wife and a high-level delegation comprising top officials, including the foreign minister and key cabinet members. A substantial business delegation is also a part of the entourage, reflecting the mutual desire to enhance economic cooperation.
The agenda for discussions encompasses a wide spectrum of areas, ranging from trade and communication to energy, agriculture and fostering people-to-people contacts. Of paramount importance will be dialogues surrounding regional and global developments, alongside concerted efforts to combat the shared menace of terrorism, reflecting the collective commitment to regional stability and security.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hosted a luncheon for the Iranian delegation on the first day, setting the tone for constructive dialogue and camaraderie. Additionally, several ministers, alongside the Chairman Senate and the Speaker of the National Assembly are slated to extend official courtesies to President Raisi during his stay.

Monday evening witnessed a pivotal meeting between President Raisi and his Pakistani counterpart, President Asif Zardari, symbolizing the strength of bilateral relations. Subsequent to this, President Raisi’s itinerary will lead him to Lahore and Karachi, where he will engage with local leadership including Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
