Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has called for death sentences against Israeli leaders, criticizing the International Criminal Court (ICC) for issuing arrest warrants instead. Speaking on Monday, Khamenei addressed the ICC’s recent action targeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defense chief Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes in Gaza.
“An arrest warrant is not enough. Death sentences must be issued for these criminal leaders,” Khamenei stated. Iran, a key supporter of Hamas and Hezbollah, has consistently condemned Israeli actions in Gaza and Lebanon.
The ICC’s warrants accuse Netanyahu and Gallant of crimes such as murder, persecution, and using starvation as a weapon of war. These acts are said to be part of a systematic attack on Gaza’s civilian population. Israel has rejected the ICC’s jurisdiction, calling the decision shameful and denying any war crimes in Gaza.

Gaza residents, however, expressed hope that the ICC’s actions could bring justice and end the violence. The ICC also issued a warrant for Hamas leader Ibrahim Al-Masri, accusing him of mass killings, rape, and hostage-taking during the October 7, 2023, attacks on Israel.
