In a concerning turn of events, Israel has resumed air raids in Gaza after a seven-day pause in fighting, marking the end of a fragile truce that had temporarily eased tensions in the region.
Nearing the ‘expiration date’
The Israel-Hamas truce, which began on November 24, was renewed twice before finally ending on Friday. During this period, both sides had agreed to a cessation of hostilities, allowing for the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza while facilitating the exchange of captives.
However, the situation took a grim turn when the UN humanitarian office, OCHA, reported incidents of Israeli forces shooting at Palestinians in Gaza on November 29. The following day, on November 30, reports emerged of Israeli shelling in the region. These incidents raised concerns about the stability of the truce and the potential for a resurgence of violence.

An hour before the truce was set to expire, the Israeli military announced the detection of incoming rockets by its Iron Dome missile defense system. Swiftly responding to the perceived threat, Israel intercepted a launch from Gaza. Notably, Hamas did not immediately claim responsibility or respond to these launches, creating uncertainty regarding the identity of the aggressor.
