Jay Shah Officially Takes Charge As New ICC Chairman Amid Champions Trophy 2025 Controversy

Jay Shah has officially assumed the role of International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman today, succeeding Greg Barclay, who held the position since November 2020. Shah, previously the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), was elected unopposed to the prestigious position.

In his first statement as ICC Chair, Shah expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by the ICC Directors and Member Boards. He emphasized the pivotal opportunities ahead, particularly cricket’s inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

“This is an exciting time for the sport as we prepare for the LA28 Olympic Games and work to make cricket more inclusive and engaging for fans worldwide,” Shah remarked.

He highlighted the need to navigate the coexistence of cricket’s multiple formats while accelerating the growth of women’s cricket. Shah acknowledged the global potential of the sport and expressed his commitment to working with the ICC and Member countries to drive cricket’s development and expansion.
