The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) is gearing up for a massive protest today, as frustration over soaring petroleum and electricity prices in Pakistan reaches a boiling point. Karachi JI chief, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, has rallied the people of Karachi to take a stand against the unprecedented hike in fuel and electricity rates.
JI leader’s call for 5
At 5 pm today, Rehman called on Karachiites to switch off their vehicles and join the protest on the city’s roads, highlighting that resistance against such injustice is the only viable path forward. He also urged party workers and activists to ensure the smooth passage of ambulances and emergency vehicles during the protest, prioritizing public safety.
This demonstration is a response to the call made by Pakistan JI supremo, Sirajul Haq. In addition to the road protests, the JI plans to stage demonstrations at 15 different locations across Karachi.
As the people unite to voice their concerns, it remains to be seen whether these protests will compel the authorities to address the pressing issue of rising fuel and electricity prices.
