Justice Yahya Afridi Appointed as Next Chief Justice of Pakistan by President Zardari

President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari has appointed Justice Yahya Afridi as the 30th Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP). His appointment follows the retirement of Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and was finalized after a recommendation from the special parliamentary committee under the 26th Constitutional Amendment.

The parliamentary committee nominated Justice Afridi, and his appointment was approved by the president on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Justice Yahya Afridi will take oath as the new CJP on October 26, with a term lasting three years.

Justice Afridi’s appointment is in accordance with Articles 175A(3), 177, and 179 of the Constitution, and he will now lead Pakistan’s highest judiciary.

As the 30th CJP, Justice Afridi is expected to oversee critical legal matters and judicial reforms during his term, following in the footsteps of his predecessor, Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa.
