The Sindh government is exploring the possibility of filing murder charges against K-Electric (KE), Karachi’s sole power distribution company, in light of the recent heat-related deaths in the city.
Sindh Interior Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar expressed deep concern over the rising death toll, with 36 bodies discovered across Karachi in the last three days. The extreme heatwave, coupled with power outages, is suspected to be a contributing factor in these sudden deaths.
Lanjar stated that if an inquiry reveals power outages as the primary cause of these deaths, KE will be held responsible. He warned of legal action, including murder charges, against the company’s administrators and officials.
Hospitals in Karachi, including Jinnah and Civil hospitals, have reported a surge in patients suffering from heatstroke and heat exhaustion.
