Karachi, Pakistan’s beating heart and economic powerhouse faces a grim future. According to a recent warning from oceanography experts, the city, along with other coastal towns in Sindh province, could be underwater within the next 45 years.
Sea Claims Karachi? Act Now!
This isn’t just another climate doomsday prophecy. The Pakistan Senate’s Standing Committee on Science and Technology isn’t mincing words either. They have sent a strong letter to the Prime Minister urging immediate action to address the issue of sea intrusion threatening Sindh’s coast.
Rising sea levels due to climate change are a major culprit, but that’s not the whole story. Experts point to alarming rates of land subsidence, where the ground itself is sinking, as a double whammy for Karachi. If this trend continues unchecked, it’s a recipe for disaster.

The Pakistani government needs to wake up and smell the rising sea level. Investment in coastal defenses, stricter environmental regulations, and a serious look at sustainable development practices are not options but necessities.
