Keir Starmer has become the United Kingdom’s new Prime Minister following a decisive victory by the Labour Party in the general election. In a speech outside 10 Downing Street, after a ceremonial “kissing of hands” with King Charles III, Starmer emphasized the urgent need for a “bigger reset” in the country.
Addressing his supporters, Starmer highlighted the nation’s enduring strength in overcoming historical challenges. “A rediscovery of who we are, because no matter how fierce the storms of history, one of the greatest strengths of this nation has always been our ability to navigate a way to calmer waters”, he declared to the cheering crowd.
Starmer pledged that his government would be dedicated to serving the interests of the people, free from rigid doctrines. “My government will fight every day until you believe again. From now on, you have a government unburdened by doctrine, guided only by the determination to serve your interest. To defy those quietly who have written our country off. You have given us a clear mandate, and we will use it to deliver change”, he affirmed.

In his speech, Starmer also acknowledged the achievements of outgoing Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, particularly noting Sunak’s historic role as the first British Asian Prime Minister. “His achievement, the extra effort that will have required, should not be underestimated by anyone. We pay tribute to that today”, Starmer remarked.
