Former Sri Lankan cricketer Lahiru Thirimanne was recently involved in a serious car accident near the north-central part of the city, leaving the cricket world in a state of shock. The accident occurred while Thirimanne was on his way to a pilgrimage site. According to the latest reports, his car collided head-on with a heavy vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.
Thirimanne’s accident shocks cricket world
Lahiru Thirimanne, who is known for his impressive performances in T20Is and ODIs, made his international debut for Sri Lanka in 2010 and represented the country in three T20 World Cups, including their title victory in 2014. Besides, he also played in two ODI World Cups and captained Sri Lanka in five ODIs.
Although the nature of Thirimanne’s injury is yet to be determined, he is currently in stable condition at Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, receiving medical attention. At least one other person who was accompanying Thirimanne in the car also survived and is receiving treatment at the same hospital.

The news of Thirimanne’s accident has left the cricket fraternity in shock and disbelief with many of his former teammates and fans wishing him a speedy recovery. The Sri Lankan Cricket Board has also expressed its concern and sent its best wishes to the former cricketer.
