A lawyer in Gujranwala has submitted a petition to a local court requesting the registration of a sedition case against the Pakistan cricket team and its captain, Babar Azam.
Filed under sections 22A and 22B of the Pakistan Penal Code, the petition accuses the team of treason for their performance in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup.
It alleges that the team’s recent losses to the United States and India have wasted public money. And brought dishonor to the nation. The petition further claims the team prioritizes financial gain over national pride.
The application seeks similar charges against the team manager, coach and chief selector. Pakistan’s recent defeats have cast a shadow over the team’s chances of advancing beyond the group stage in the World Cup.

The petition emphasizes the emotional distress caused to the nation by the team’s performance. It demands a ban on the team until a thorough inquiry is conducted. And a report is submitted to the Home Secretary.
The court has requested a report from the police regarding the registration of the case. The SHO (Station House Officer) of the relevant police station has been directed to submit the report by June 21st.
