“Leaving PTI Was A Mistake And A Sign Of Weakness”: Says Imran Ismail

Source: The Nation

In a recent conversation on a local news channel, Imran Ismail reflected on his decision to leave the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), describing it as a mistake and a sign of weakness.

The former Governor of Sindh candidly admitted that his departure from the party was not a wholehearted choice but rather a response to internal pressures within PTI. Ismail clarified that despite leaving the party, he remains engaged in politics but leads a less active political life.

Not with IPP, temporary alignment with PPP

Addressing speculations surrounding his resignation and alleged affiliation with the Istehkam Pakistan Party (IPP), Ismail asserted that he neither formally resigned from PTI nor officially joined any other political group. He attributed his temporary alignment with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to a gesture of solidarity with friends who sought his assistance after departing from PTI following events on May 9th.

Emphasizing the nuanced reasons behind individuals’ departures from PTI, Ismail delineated between those who left under duress, those who willingly departed, and those who opted for a period of political detachment. He underscored that his own decision to part ways with PTI was more cerebral than emotional, citing his continued respect for the party’s founding members while currently maintaining a non-partisan stance.

Ismail advocated for accountability for any wrongdoing associated with the May 9th events but cautioned against unfairly implicating innocent individuals. He defended the right of former PTI members to align with alternative political entities, stressing the importance of individual autonomy in political affiliation.
