In a recent sermon at the Prophet’s Mosque (Masjid an-Nabawi), Imam Sheikh Hudaify declared that celebrating the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)’s birthday (Mawlid) is an innovation (bid’ah) and a form of disrespect towards the Prophet.
From the sacred pulpit, he emphasized that honoring and loving the Prophet is best demonstrated by following his teachings, obeying his commands, and worshiping Allah according to his guidance.
Sheikh Hudaify highlighted a hadith reported by Bukhari and Muslim: “None of you truly believes until I am more beloved to you than your father, your children, and everyone else.” He stressed that this love for the Prophet should manifest in adhering to his Sunnah, not by introducing new practices like celebrating Mawlid.

The Imam also pointed out that the righteous predecessors, including the Prophet’s companions, never celebrated his birthday. Their success, both spiritually and materially, came from strictly following the Prophet’s teachings and avoiding innovations.
Sheikh Hudaify urged the congregation to follow their example by staying true to the Sunnah and refraining from practices not endorsed by the Prophet.
