Amina Sohail, a 28-year-old from Karachi, is breaking new ground as one of the few female motorcycle drivers for a local ride-hailing service. As the first woman in her family to work, she reflects the growing trend of women stepping into the workforce in Pakistan, driven by increasing financial pressures.
Despite the challenges of navigating Karachi’s busy streets, Amina remains focused on her job, which is to transport female passengers safely. She pays no attention to the stares or comments from bystanders. “I do my work and ignore the noise,” she says.
Her earnings have brought much-needed relief to her family, who struggled financially after her father, the previous breadwinner, became ill. Amina’s income now ensures her family can afford basic needs like daily meals, which was difficult before.
