A mob in the Madyan area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swat district brutally killed a man on Thursday night, accusing him of desecrating the Holy Quran, police said.
The incident has sparked outrage and unrest in the region. Eight people were injured in the ensuing violence, according to Swat District Police Officer (DPO) Dr. Zahidullah Khan.
Police had initially apprehended the suspect but were overwhelmed by a charged mob who stormed the police station, overpowered officers, and took the man away.
“They set fire to the police station and a mobile vehicle”, said DPO Khan, adding that the suspect was then “torched” by the mob.
Authorities are still investigating the incident, but graphic videos circulating on social media show a burning body in the middle of the road and a large crowd gathered outside the vandalized police station.
