Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has nominated Mohsin Naqvi as the new Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). This decision was taken after Zaka Ashraf’s sudden resignation from the post of Chairman of the PCB Management Committee and Member of the Board of Governors (BoG).
Zaka Ashraf’s stop at PCB
Zaka Ashraf had served as the Chairman of the PCB Management Committee for about seven months before stepping down. In a statement, Ashraf expressed his dedication to the improvement of Pakistan cricket but cited unfavorable working conditions as the reason for his resignation.
Ashraf further mentioned his inability to work effectively under such circumstances and clarified that the nomination of a new chairman is not within the prime minister’s prerogative.
The PCB Management Committee, led by Ashraf, was established last year in July for a four-month term by the Caretaker PM Anwaarul Haq Kakar, who utilized his authority as the patron of the PCB. During his tenure, the Pakistan Cricket Team had a sweeping change in coaching staff as well as captains.

Since December 2022, Pakistan Cricket has had four chairpersons — Ramiz Raja, Najam Sethi, Zaka Ashraf, and now most likely Mohsin Naqvi. It is noteworthy that Mohsin Naqvi is currently serving as the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab.
