The administration of New York City has taken a progressive step by granting mosques permission to broadcast the Muslim call to prayer, known as the Adhan, without the need for a permit.
Thankful Muslim communtiy
The landmark decision allows the Adhan to be broadcast every Friday between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., providing an opportunity for the community to gather and observe their religious practices.
Furthermore, this new guidance extends to the holy month of Ramadan, permitting the evening call to prayer as well. The directive, issued by the New York City Police Department (NYPD), makes it clear that the Adhan is not prohibited by the city’s sound restrictions, thus ensuring the freedom of religious expression for the Muslim community.
The move has been met with appreciation from Muslim leaders, who view it as a positive stride towards enabling easier and more unrestricted practice of their faith. This inclusive measure not only fosters religious harmony but also reflects the city’s commitment to upholding diverse cultural and religious traditions.
