Najam Sethi, the Interim Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has decided to pull out of the race for the board’s next chief position. Sethi had led the committee responsible for conducting elections across PCB’s affiliated districts to form the Board of Governors.
With the task almost complete, the nomination of two individuals from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif awaited, the 10-member BoG will soon be finalized.
The ‘unexpected’ withdrawal
Initially, Sethi seemed to be the Prime Minister’s preferred candidate. However, the 75-year-old surprised everyone on Monday night by announcing his withdrawal from the race. This decision has sparked curiosity and speculation about the future leadership of the PCB.
Salaam everyone! I don’t want to be a bone of contention between Asif Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif. Such instability and uncertainty is not good for PCB. Under the circumstances I am not a candidate for Chairmanship of PCB. Good luck to all stakeholders.
