In a recent statement, Barrister Zafarullah Khan, a prominent leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), made it clear that if former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s request for protective bail is not accepted, he will face imprisonment upon his return to Pakistan.
Will Nawaz Sharif land in jail?
Speaking on a local TV program, Barrister Zafarullah emphasized that Nawaz Sharif is committed to complying with the court’s directives and will surrender himself for legal proceedings if necessary.
Zafarullah expressed his concerns about using National Accountability Bureau (NAB) laws to target politicians. He highlighted that political parties, including PTI, PPP, and PML-N, had previously agreed to amend a significant portion of these laws. However, the stance shifted after the Panama case, with PTI changing its position.

The PML-N leader further criticized the efficacy of NAB investigations, suggesting that many NAB cases are baseless. He also took issue with the suspension of NAB amendments by former Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, claiming that it had adverse consequences for Pakistan.
In addition, Barrister Zafarullah underscored the PML-N’s determination to have Nawaz Sharif return to Pakistan in October to lead the party’s election campaign, asserting unanimous agreement within the party on this decision.
