The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has recently greenlit a significant adjustment in electricity prices, amounting to a Rs. 1.46 per unit increase. This hike comes as part of the Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) for the former Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) distribution companies (DISCOs).

Sky-high ‘fuel adjustment’ charges

When fuel prices rise, this adjustment allows power companies to recover the additional costs incurred in generating electricity. The approval of this increase in FCA rates highlights the ongoing challenges in balancing the cost of electricity production and the need for maintaining a reliable power supply.
