The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken a decisive stance in its pursuit of enforcing a non-bailable arrest warrant against former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan. The warrant is linked to a case of contempt of the electoral body, and the ECP has directed the Islamabad Capital Territory Police (ICT) to fulfill its obligation in apprehending Khan promptly.
The reason behind
The ECP’s move comes after Imran Khan’s continued absence from hearings, which has seemingly fueled the commission’s determination to take action. The urgency to bring Khan before the electoral watchdog intensified, prompting the ECP to request the Islamabad IG to arrest him and present him for proceedings the following day.
However, amidst the legal tangle, Imran Khan found some relief when the Supreme Court intervened, restraining the police from arresting him in another separate case concerning the murder of senior lawyer Abdul Razzaq Shar in Quetta, until August 9.
