Pakistan Govt To File Clemency Appeal For Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s Release In USA

Source: World Arabia

In recent news, the federal government of Pakistan has decided to submit a clemency appeal for the release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani citizen currently imprisoned in the United States, on humanitarian grounds.

This move comes after a petition was filed by her sister, Dr. Fouzia Siddiqui, seeking Aafia’s release. The Islamabad High Court, led by Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan, issued a written order following the hearing.

During the proceedings, Pakistan’s Attorney General assured the court that the government fully supports the clemency appeal.“The government has no reason not to stand with the clemency appeal prepared by Dr. Fouzia Siddiqui’s legal team”, the Attorney General stated.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to address the issue during his upcoming visit to the United Nations, where it will be discussed with U.S. officials. In addition to supporting Dr. Fouzia Siddiqui’s appeal, the Pakistani government will file a separate petition for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s release.
