Pakistan May Consider Imran Khan’s Case if US Releases Aafia Siddiqui: Rana Sanaullah

Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah has suggested a potential exchange of considerations involving Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani neuroscientist imprisoned in the United States. Speaking on Geo News’ program Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Ke Saath, Sanaullah stated that the government could think about Khan’s situation if the U.S. agrees to release Siddiqui.

Sanaullah emphasized that the government operates under the constitution and legal framework. “If an accused is undergoing trial and in judicial custody, how can the government unilaterally release them?” he questioned. He added that criminal cases must follow due process, including investigations led by police and other relevant institutions.

The adviser dismissed any notion of yielding to pressure from former U.S. President Donald Trump, saying, “We are not going to work based on tweets or statements.” He clarified that any dialogue between the opposition and government must occur through mutual understanding, not external influence.

Sanaullah reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to raising the case of Aafia Siddiqui with the U.S., suggesting that her release could pave the way for reconsidering Imran Khan’s legal status. This statement adds a new dimension to the ongoing political and diplomatic discussions in Pakistan.
