Motorists in Pakistan are advised to fill their tanks as the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has announced a nationwide strike starting on July 5th. The strike comes in protest against the government’s imposition of a 0.5% advance tax on turnover in the recent budget.
PPDA Chairman Abdul Sami Khan expressed frustration with the lack of progress in talks with the government. He claims the tax will destroy petrol pump businesses already facing minimal profits due to high inflation. “Double taxation is a violation of the Constitution”, Khan stated.

The strike, involving 14,000 petrol pump dealers across the country, could significantly disrupt the fuel supply chain and impact daily life across Pakistan. The PPDA is urging citizens to fill their tanks before the strike begins while the government is advised to prepare for potential fuel shortages and consider the concerns of the petrol pump industry.
