According to the 2024 World Justice Project (WJP) Rule of Law Index, Pakistan is ranked third-worst among 142 nations in law and order. This annual report measures eight key factors, including government accountability, corruption, security, civil rights, and justice systems.

In this year’s index, Pakistan ranks 140th for order and security, evaluated by crime control, protection from conflict, and peaceful dispute resolution. Pakistan also ranked low in areas like government accountability, fundamental rights, and regulatory enforcement. Only Mali and Nigeria ranked lower in law and order.

The report highlights a global decline in the rule of law for the seventh consecutive year. Despite these findings, WJP notes signs of progress, with 59% of countries showing improvement in corruption reduction and criminal justice. William H. Neukom, WJP’s president, urged the global community to focus on advancing justice systems and anti-corruption efforts.
