Pakistan marks the somber tenth anniversary of the 2014 Army Public School (APS) tragedy, one of the nation’s darkest days. On December 16, 2014, six terrorists from the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban attacked APS in Peshawar, killing 132 students and 17 staff members in a brutal act of terrorism.

This devastating incident not only left families heartbroken but also spurred the nation to take decisive action against terrorism. It led to the formation of the National Action Plan, aimed at eradicating terrorism in tribal regions and strengthening national security measures.

Today, families of the martyrs are gathering to honor their loved ones, holding memorials and offering prayers for the departed souls. Educational institutions across Peshawar are hosting remembrance ceremonies to pay tribute to the victims.

To ensure safety amid security concerns, the Punjab School Education Department has declared all public and private schools in Punjab and Islamabad closed for the day. Similar notifications were issued in Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Islamabad, where exams have been postponed.

In Rawalpindi, officials confirmed that the closures are part of the commemoration of the APS attack, which remains one of the deadliest terrorist incidents in Pakistan’s history.
