Top Pakistani politicians have responded to a recent leak of records revealing residential properties valued at approximately $11 billion owned by the country’s political, military, and business elite in Dubai. They have dismissed the revelations, asserting that all mentioned assets had been legally declared.

Dubai property leaks

Earlier this week, a massive leak of property data from Dubai has revealed investments by prominent Pakistani figures, including politicians, businessmen, and retired military officials. The data obtained by the Center for Advanced Defence Studies (C4ADS) details ownership and usage information for hundreds of thousands of properties in Dubai, primarily from 2020 to 2022.

Among those named are:
  • Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and his siblings, Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari and Aseefa Bhutto Zardari.
  • The wife of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Ms. Ashraf.
  • Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon.
  • Sons of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Hussain Nawaz.
  • Son of retired General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Saad Siddique Bajwa.
  • Senator Faisal Vawda.
  • PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat.

These individuals have all maintained that their properties were declared with the appropriate Pakistani authorities and there is nothing illegal about their ownership.

While some of these properties were previously declared, the details raise questions about the source of funds used for their purchase. Particularly the 23 Marina penthouse, which was mentioned in a past corruption investigation report as well.

However, it is noteworthy that incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan is not included in the leaked data.
