Pakistanis Involved in Almost Half of UAE Crimes, Senate Claims

Recently, the Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development disclosed that Pakistanis are implicated in almost half of the crimes in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Dr. Arshad, the Secretary of Overseas Pakistanis, brought up this concerning statistic during a committee meeting earlier this week.

The committee was informed that the UAE, along with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait, has expressed concerns about various issues related to the Pakistani labor force in these countries. In September 2023, it was reported that a significant number of beggars were leaving Pakistan, with 90% of arrested beggars abroad being Pakistani.

Dr. Arshad pointed out that Pakistan has a domestic labor force of about 71.8 million, and approximately 10.7 million Pakistanis live abroad, primarily in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the US, the UK, and Canada. He emphasized that criminal activities among Pakistanis abroad, especially in the UAE, have become a significant issue.

Furthermore, there have been reports of inappropriate behavior by Pakistanis in the UAE, such as filming videos in front of women in Dubai, which has increased concerns. Every year, around 0.6 to 0.8 million Pakistanis travel abroad, with 96% of them going to Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
