Earlier this week, Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho inaugurated Pakistan’s first Shariah-compliant Human Milk Bank and Early Childhood Centre. Located at the Sindh Institute of Child Health and Neonatology (SICHN) in Karachi, the facility offers a vital resource for newborns unable to receive breast milk from their mothers.

Established with the support of Unicef, the milk bank collects, processes, and distributes donor milk while adhering to Islamic guidelines.

Dr. Pechuho emphasized the importance of mother’s milk for optimal nutrition and immunity in newborns. Professor Jamal Raza, Executive Director of SICHN, explained the specialized procedures to ensure Shariah compliance in milk collection and distribution.
