Pakistan’s foray into lunar exploration reached a historic milestone as its inaugural lunar satellite, ICUBE-Qamar, transmitted its first-ever images from the lunar orbit. This achievement was announced by the National Space Agency, marking a significant advancement in the country’s space exploration endeavors.
Pakistan’s ‘ICUBE-Qamar’ and China
Part of China’s Chang’e-6 lunar mission, ICUBE-Qamar was launched from Hainan province on May 3, successfully entering the moon’s orbit on May 8. Positioned at an average distance of 384,400 kilometers from Earth, the satellite embarked on its mission to explore the lunar terrain and capture vital data.

Designed collaboratively by Islamabad’s Institute of Space Technology (IST), China’s Shanghai University (SJTU), and Pakistan’s national space agency, Suparco, the lunar module showcases the power of international cooperation in space exploration.

The unveiling of the first images captured by ICUBE-Qamar occurred during a ceremony at the China National Space Agency (CNSA). It signifies the successful accomplishment of the mission. Dr. Khurram Khursheed, spokesperson for IST and head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Science.
With these initial images, Pakistan cements its presence in the global space exploration arena. Laying the groundwork for further advancements and contributions to humanity’s understanding of the cosmos.
