Disturbing reports have emerged from the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) in Lahore, Pakistan, where a severe shortage of beds has forced medical staff to treat patients in corridors and even on footpaths.
Local media outlets obtained footage showing patients receiving intravenous drips while lying on a footpath outside the hospital, highlighting the dire situation faced by many seeking critical cardiac care.
Sources within the hospital allege a disconnect between the provincial government’s claims of improved healthcare facilities and the reality on the ground. Despite assurances from Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, no additional beds have reportedly been allocated to the overburdened emergency department.

The lack of space within the hospital is further attributed to a recent renovation project that prioritized beautification over increasing bed capacity. Astonishingly, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital reportedly remains unaware of the bed shortage, raising questions about administrative oversight.
