The Standing Committee of the Punjab Cabinet on Law and Order (SCCLO) has approved a huge budget of approximately Rs. 88 million for the refurbishment of a helipad in Lahore, which is often used by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
When was the decision made?
The decision was made during a recent meeting of the caretaker SCCLO on 22nd March 2023. The funding for the project is expected to come from a block allotment of the home ministry, subject to legal and official requirements.
However, some senior officials are questioning the expenditure, which they see as excessive given the country’s financial difficulties. Critics argue that the funds should be allocated to more deserving public welfare programs instead.

Reports suggest that the helipad is being upgraded to allow the Prime Minister’s helicopter to land in Lahore at night. As a result, prominent Punjab bureaucrats have urged the Prime Minister to reconsider the expenditure while the government is attempting to secure financial aid from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the coming days.
