Punjab Launches AI-Based Traffic Penalty System Under CM Maryam Nawaz

Source: Newsvalley

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced the rollout of an AI-based traffic challan system across the province. In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), she stated, “Punjab government has now started issuing AI-based e-challans. This is a step towards technologically advanced Punjab and using technology to improve and enhance governance.”

The new AI system will issue e-challans for 19 traffic violations, including breaking signals, driving on the wrong side, and exceeding speed limits. The Lahore Traffic Police have formed special teams to enforce these rules and capture violators.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Amara Athar noted that this AI system is the first of its kind in South Asia, designed to ensure safer roads and better discipline. The system also supports digitalizing traffic and challan processes, allowing citizens to manage fines and vehicle registrations online without needing to visit police stations.
