Saudi Arabia Announces Ambitious Plan to Plant 10 Billion Trees in the Desert

Source: MENA-Forum

Saudi Arabia has launched an ambitious project to plant 10 billion trees across its vast desert landscapes as part of its Saudi Green Initiative and Middle East Green Initiative. The move aims to rejuvenate 200 million hectares of degraded land, addressing environmental challenges such as desertification and climate change while enhancing biodiversity.

The afforestation efforts will contribute to global climate goals, providing a significant boost to worldwide reforestation programs. These initiatives are expected to improve agricultural output, promote biodiversity, and support the livelihoods of millions dependent on the ecosystems targeted for restoration.

Saudi officials have emphasized that the project aligns with the kingdom’s commitment to environmental sustainability. By tackling land degradation, the initiative seeks to create greener urban areas and mitigate the environmental impact of desert expansion.

This large-scale effort will also contribute to global carbon reduction, helping counteract greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainable land management practices.

The Saudi Green Initiative reflects the kingdom’s broader vision to integrate environmental stewardship into its national development plans. With its far-reaching impact, this project underscores Saudi Arabia’s growing role in global climate action and environmental conservation efforts.
