Saudi Arabia Begins Building Mukaab, World’s Largest Cube in Riyadh

Source: MEP Middle East

Saudi Arabia has begun construction on a massive cube-shaped attraction called the Mukaab in Riyadh. Set to be the world’s largest structure, the Mukaab will anchor the New Murabba development project, a major addition to Riyadh’s downtown, which was launched last year. This enormous building will measure 400 meters on each side—large enough to fit 20 Empire State Buildings within its walls.

According to Michael Dyke, CEO of New Murabba, the Mukaab is designed to be an iconic symbol for Riyadh, featuring the world’s first fully enclosed skyscraper and an immersive dome displaying holographic images. Inspired by traditional Najd architecture, its design consists of overlapping triangular forms.

The project has drawn criticism for its resemblance to the Kaaba in Mecca, with some viewing it as potentially controversial. Set to complete its first phase by 2030, New Murabba will eventually house 400,000 people and serve as part of Saudi Arabia’s ambitious Vision 2030 urban development goals.
