Saudi Arabia has emerged as the frontrunner to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, securing a higher technical score than the joint bid from the United States, Canada, and Mexico. FIFA’s bid evaluation report awarded Saudi Arabia an average score of 4.2 out of 5 despite the country not yet completing several proposed stadiums for the event.

Key to Saudi Arabia’s bid is the ambitious construction of the 92,760-seat King Salman International Stadium in Riyadh and seven additional stadiums, all slated for completion by 2032. Three of these are expected to be finished ahead of schedule for the 2027 Asian Cup.

The evaluation results have surprised many in the footballing world, as the US, Canada, and Mexico were widely considered favorites due to their advanced infrastructure and established history with major tournaments.
