Serbia has come up with a new method to tackle air pollution which is the ‘liquid tree’. Yes, you heard that right!
Belgrade’s urban photobioreactor called “Liquid 3”, which is the first of its kind in the country, uses microalgae to absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen through photosynthesis. The technology can help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality in the city.

The initiative is particularly important for Belgrade, which is the fourth most polluted city in Serbia. Although the project has been criticized by some for being too costly and inefficient compared to planting trees, supporters argue that the technology is more effective and can replace two trees or 200 square meters of lawn.
