Pakistani film industry veteran, Shaan Shahid, has advised Faisal Qureshi, a well-known actor and director, to stick to directing Ufone ads after watching his directorial debut, “Money Back Guarantee.” Shaan compared Faisal’s movie to his popular commercials for ‘Ufone’, stating that commercials are only 45 seconds long and are much simpler than filmmaking.
Others reacting to the harsh remarks
Shaan’s criticism has sparked a debate among the Pakistani film fraternity, with some actors and directors supporting him and others defending Faisal. While some agree with Shaan’s comments, others argue that Faisal should be appreciated for trying his hand at filmmaking.
Even though Money Back Guarantee has a star-studded cast including Fawad Khan, Hina Dilpazir, Ali Safina, Wasim Akram, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Gohar Rasheed, and Jan Rambo, the movie couldn’t meet up to the expectations of the audience.

Filmmaking; not everyone’s cup of tea
There’s no doubt that filmmaking is a complex and challenging process that requires a lot of effort, skill, and dedication. Directing a successful film requires a combination of technical and creative expertise, which takes years of experience to develop. While it is true that making commercials is relatively easier, it is also important to note that directing ads also requires a certain level of skill and creativity.
Regardless of the debate, it is important to support and encourage new talent in the Pakistani film industry. Constructive criticism can help artists improve their craft, but it should be given in a respectful and positive manner. As the industry continues to grow and evolve, it is essential to foster an environment that promotes creativity, innovation, and collaboration.
