In a digital battleground of opinions, former Pakistani captain Shahid Khan Afridi refuses to back down against a barrage of online criticism, vowing to uphold his integrity and charitable mission despite mounting pressure.

Shahid Afridi’s response to the criticism

The dispute began when an aged video of Shahid Afridi surfaced on the microblogging site X, capturing the cricket legend’s candid remarks on the political landscape during a 2022 charity event in London.

Afridi’s assessment of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s tenure ignited a firestorm among Khan’s supporters and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) loyalists who swiftly launched a campaign to criticize Afridi and target businesses he’s associated with.

Amidst the onslaught, Afridi took to X, defending his philanthropic works fueled by the proceeds from his brand endorsements. “Whatever share I have in these brands is spent on girls’ education, clean water wells, hospitals, welfare of the elderly and distribution of ration to the deserving,” wrote Afridi.

Journalist Imran Riaz Khan joined the chorus of critics, questioning Afridi’s loyalty and accusing him of betraying the public’s trust. Afridi, however, remained resolute, reaffirming his commitment to the people and principles he holds dear.

As the online clash intensified, Afridi clashed with YouTuber Imran Riaz Khan, labeling him a “troll” for his critique of Afridi’s political commentary. Undeterred, Afridi stressed the importance of discerning truth from slander in today’s digital echo chamber.
