Sheikh Hasina Faces Global Setbacks as US Visa Cancels, UK Asylum Denied

Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh who recently resigned after student protests, is now facing serious international setbacks. After leaving Bangladesh for India, she sought asylum in the United Kingdom, but her request was denied. Additionally, the United States has canceled her visa.

Reports from Indian media suggest that Sheikh Hasina originally planned to seek political asylum in London. However, the UK’s new asylum policy, introduced by Prime Minister Kier Starmer, requires applicants to stay in another country temporarily while their case is reviewed. As a result, the UK has refused her asylum request.

In another blow, the US has revoked her visa, although there has been no official confirmation from Washington. Despite these challenges, the Indian government has allowed Sheikh Hasina to stay in the country, honoring their past relationship, while she explores other options for asylum.
