In a major development, Sher Afzal Marwat, a notable figure within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, made a significant revelation on Wednesday, regarding his communication with Asif Ali Zardari, co-chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), the previous night. Speaking to reporters in Islamabad, Marwat disclosed that Zardari had reached out to him around 11 p.m. through intermediaries.

What is going on?

Sher Afzal Marwat conveyed that Zardari expressed a preference for the PTI to form the government at the center, rather than the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). He promptly informed his party’s leadership about this communication with the PPP.

Marwat expressed his intention to brief the PTI founder about these political engagements the following day. This disclosure comes amidst the PPP’s decision to support the PML-N in the formation of the central government. Meanwhile, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto has formed a six-member committee to engage with various political entities.

However, the PPP contradicted Marwat’s account, denying any direct communication between Zardari and him. The party’s spokesperson clarified that Zardari’s discussions centered around potentially allowing independent candidates backed by the PTI to lead the government. Nonetheless, Zardari had previously announced his party’s support for the PML-N’s candidate for the Prime Ministerial position.
