“SHO To Be Suspended If Any Citizen Loses Life During Robbery In Karachi”: Sindh Home Minister

Source: Dawn

In a bid to combat Karachi’s rising street crime, Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar recently announced a strict new policy: Any Station House Officer (SHO) whose jurisdiction experiences a fatal robbery will be suspended.

Lanjar made the announcement during a heated speech in the Sindh Assembly. He also acknowledged the police force’s manpower shortage, highlighting the need for 42,000 new constables.

While commending the collaboration between police and paramilitary Rangers, Lanjar claimed a decline in mobile phone snatching incidents due to the arrest of over 300 alleged scrap dealer accomplices.

Furthermore, Lanjar urged Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to provide compensation for families who lost loved ones resisting robberies. He also proposed a restructuring of Karachi’s police stations, aiming to increase patrol coverage by expanding jurisdictions.

The minister concluded by emphasizing improved treatment of women by police officers, stating they “should be respected at any cost.” This announcement comes amid public outcry over the surge in violent robberies in Karachi, where 74 people have already been killed resisting robberies this year alone.
