Former Pakistani pace legend Shoaib Akhtar has caused a stir by predicting a significant overhaul of the national cricket team following the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup. In a scathing assessment on his YouTube channel, Akhtar expressed his disappointment with Pakistan’s performance so far, particularly when compared to past World Cups.
“After the 1999 World Cup, we had a core group of 10 players who consistently represented Pakistan for a decade”, stated Akhtar. He went on to criticize the selection process and its perceived reliance on mediocrity.
“Pakistan needs to make the right decisions to groom the team for the future. Picking average players will only yield average results. Until we move away from mediocrity, it will simply perpetuate itself”, he emphasized.
