Sirbaz Khan, Naila Kiani — First Pakistani Duo To Summit World’s 6th Highest Peak “Cho Oyu”

In a remarkable achievement for Pakistan, mountaineers Naila Kiani and Sirbaz Khan have etched their names in history as the first Pakistani duo to conquer the formidable 8,201-meter-tall Cho Oyu, the world’s sixth-highest peak, located in Tibet, China.

The ‘totally not easy’ journey

Cho Oyu, known as the “Turquoise Goddess” in Tibetan, stands on the Nepal-Tibet border, 20 kilometers to the west of Mount Everest in the Mahalangur range. This daunting summit has long captured the imagination of climbers worldwide.

The duo’s awe-inspiring feat was accomplished during an expedition led by Imagine Nepal, with Khan’s climb standing out for his remarkable achievement of reaching the summit without the use of supplementary oxygen. They managed this incredible feat just five days after crossing the Tibet border from Nepal, highlighting their endurance and determination.

Naila Kiani has earned her place in history as the first Pakistani woman to conquer 10 peaks above 8,000 meters and the only Pakistani to achieve this remarkable feat of ascending seven peaks above 8,000 meters in a mere six months.

Sirbaz Khan, on the other hand, is now the sole Pakistani to summit 13 peaks above 8,000 meters, a record-breaking achievement. His remarkable ascent of 10 of these towering mountains was achieved without the assistance of supplementary oxygen. Their remarkable accomplishments serve as a testament to the indomitable spirit of Pakistani mountaineers on the global stage.
