Social Media Platform X (Formerly Twitter) Still Banned In Pakistan, Confirms PTA

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has clarified that the ban on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, remains in effect in Pakistan. Despite efforts by users to access the platform without VPNs, the PTA confirmed that X is still suspended and unavailable across the country.

This update follows recent developments where PTA’s legal representative, Ahsan Imam, informed the Sindh High Court that the PTA had retracted its earlier notification regarding the suspension of X. This statement came in response to a request by the court for an official position on the ban.

The Sindh High Court has since directed the Ministry of Interior to lift the suspension on X within a week. The platform was originally banned in February, following the national elections, due to concerns over content moderation and misinformation.

While the PTA has acknowledged the court’s directives, the social media platform remains inaccessible until further notice. The situation remains under scrutiny, with many users and digital rights advocates awaiting the government’s response to the court order. The lifting of the suspension could restore access to X, allowing users in Pakistan to resume normal usage of the platform.
